ONE HUNDRED WEDDINGS!!! It seems so surreal. Especially for a girl who never dreamed of being a photographer! I figured this would be the perfect time to share my story since I get this question a lot. And, just for fun, we are giving away a Starbucks gift card! My story

A lot of people think I was just born with a camera in my hand and knew exactly what I wanted to do in life, when actually the complete opposite happened. I’ve always been crafty, but I went through high school and college aimlessly trying to figure out what I wanted to DO with my life. I knew I liked helping people. I knew I was creative. I knew I didn’t want to be a starving artist.

In the meantime, I graduated high school and enrolled in college, still not knowing what I wanted to major in. I took a black and white film class as a filler. Little did I know that class would change my LIFE! I spent HOURS in the dark room learning through trial and error(mostly error!) how to process film myself. My professor asked me to enroll in more of her classes because she said I had a good eye, but by that time the new nursing program started, and it sounded like something I could do! So I got my bachelors of Science in Nursing degree and became a nurse.

It was fulfilling and made me feel like I was doing good in the world. I absolutely loved the bond I made with my patients and their families, and I loved the responsibility that came along with it. I had continued to photograph families throughout college and progressed (I thought I was really getting good HAHAHA!).

My first wedding I ever shot was not planned. My Sister-in-law’s friend was getting married and her photographer backed out a week before the wedding(!!!). They asked me if I could step in, and I hesitantly said “yes.”

My hands were sweating the entire day, not only because it was June in Houston, but I was SO FREAKING NERVOUS! But by the end of the night I had experienced my first wedding high. If you’re a wedding photographer, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you’re not, you won’t know what I’m talking about until you become a wedding photographer. HAHA!

But it wasn’t until Jason and I got married and received terrible wedding photos from our day that I really thought “wow, I could do better than this AND give couples a better experience.” So that’s what I did. Slowly but surely, I started booking weddings, and before I knew it I was photographing weddings for people I didn’t already know(that’s when I knew I was doing something right haha)!

In 2014 I had to choose nursing or wedding photography, so I left my nurse career behind, and became a full time wedding photographer. I get some strange looks when people find out I used to be a nurse, but I have found that photography is just as rewarding. When my couples thank me at the end of the night for being there for them on their best day ever and call or text me with heart-eyed crying emojis when they receive their final gallery…I know I made the right choice.

I’m always saying I have the best couples ever and I truly mean it. Each one of these people have a special place in my heart, and I’m looking forward to many more weddings!
