I remember the day Leah called me about photographing her wedding at The Olana in Dallas. I was shopping at H-E-B and I was so excited, I’m pretty sure everyone on the pasta aisle with me thought I was NUTS. By some stroke of luck/fate/destiny she found me on Google and loved my work! So we made it a done deal and she booked me for her wedding almost two years in advance! It’s so weird to think back to the day we had our first phone call, because it was in 2019 when the World was completely different. We did their engagement session the Summer of 2020 (see it here), and we crossed our fingers and prayed for the best for their 2021 Winter wedding with COVID being such an uncertainty.
What we weren’t prepared for was the SNOWPOCALYPSE of 2021!
When I say these two are lucky, I really mean that God was looking out for them extremely well on their wedding day. Three days before their big day all of the Texas roads and highways were impassable due to Ice and snow! I made the trek from Central Texas to Dallas the day before, and it was still very treacherous, but the roads were thawing, and I made it!
Leah kept saying “As long as Allison can make it to our wedding we will be fine” 😂 What she doesn’t know is I would have WALKED if I had to!
And let me tell you, the SUNSHINE we had on February twentieth was such a breath of fresh air, and truly brought their photos to life! I still cannot get over how perfect the timing of their wedding was. There was still snow on the ground, but the sun was melting it away like it knew these two were getting married that day.
I feel so blessed to have met Leah and Nathan and I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to photograph their special day. Preserving memories is my favorite thing to do, especially when my couples are THIS amazing!
At the end of their day after they had their last dance we said our goodbyes, but I know I’ll see them again! I know “lifers” when I see them (the people who book me for not only their wedding, but every milestone after that) and I cannot wait!
Now scroll for my faves from the day!
When we arrived the fountains were still frozen!
We were so happy and relieved to see each other!! Also, if you’re not trying to fit everything in your back pockets what are you doing? 😂🙈
The Olana’s bridal suite is SO fabulous. The walk-in Chanel closet, alone, is such a stunner.
When you’re getting married at a fabulous and VAST venue like The Olana, a First Look is absolutely a must! We were able to get so many great shots around the venue before the wedding that we wouldn’t have captured otherwise.
Their flower girl was the most precious with her iphone shadowing me for “the shot.” She said she wants to be a photographer, too. I wish I knew I was going to be a photographer at that age.
The wind was out of control, but it made for the most beautiful veil photos!
I have photographed over 150 wedding days, but this is the first time I had to work around snow!
The ring bearers wanted no part of this. 😂
Leah is literally a Disney Princess. You can’t change my mind.
I always do night portraits for every couple, and I had been dreaming about this night portrait for months! It is everything I dreamed it would be. 😍
