I have photographed hundreds of couples and “what do we wear?” is my NUMBER ONE question! Brides who book me get a style guide with all of my tips for looking their best at their engagement session, but I want to share a few sources for getting amazing dresses for the engagement session!
The dresses in this post are all from Lulus, one of my favorite stores! The first time I heard about this awesome company was actually from my brides! I would see a cute dress my bride was wearing and ask where she got it– “Lulus!” That’s what they said every time! So I knew I had to check it out for myself, and I fell in love when I did. Not only do they have perfect engagement dresses, but they have the perfect dress for any occasion! There are even a couple of dresses that could work for bridesmaids or simply wedding dresses.
I recommend one flowy dress and one that’s more fitted (or you can do a more casual look–sometimes we have time for three outfits, so keep that in mind :)
Coordinate your outfits, but don’t match perfectly like my parents did in the 70’s ;)
Wear something that makes you feel amazing! If you are self conscious about a part of your body, keep that in mind when choosing a dress. If you hate your arms, don’t wear a sleeveless dress. If you hate your tummy, don’t get a tight fitted dress (dresses that are flowy with a cinched waist are your best bet). If you have a tattoo you hate, cover it up or get a dress that covers it.
Can you wear an elegant dress in the wild? YES! (PS this dress is from Lulus!)
Go with a color that’s easy on the eyes. Hot pink, lime green, bright orange, etc. don’t photograph AS well as soft pinks, blues, burgundy, etc.
Most of these dresses come in different colors, so be sure to check that out! They also have reviews with photos of real people which I always find very helpful.
