10 Trending Wedding Dances and Songs | Texas Wedding Photographer

This post is meant to give you ideas on how to incorporate fun dance moments into your wedding as a couple, as well as give you the low-down on trending wedding dances and which ones you should learn ahead of time if you’re attending a wedding as a guest!

Have a private first dance

This is a fabulous way to get a “first look” with your reception space! It’s just you, me, and the band :)

Copper Head Road

If you’re getting married in the South it’s very likely that this song will be at your wedding. It’s not as popular for weddings in the City, but it’s a must for country weddings!

Cotton Eye Joe

This one isn’t as popular, but it’s so much FUN!

The Wobble

This song is played at every single wedding I photograph, whether it’s in the city at a luxury hotel or in the sticks in a barn. The Wobble is a dance you GOTTA know!

Footloose

This one has made a resurgence in the past couple of years. It’s not at every wedding, but it is popular!

Cupid Shuffle

This is another song that is played at every wedding and it’s usually a tactic the DJ uses to get guests on the dance floor. If you have a band you probably won’t be hearing this song though.

The Grand March

There’s one couple in charge who has done this rodeo before(lol) and they lead a massive congo line of people around the dancefloor, outside, inside, wherever. It’s a lot of fun, and we always end up with great photos.

Anniversary Dance

How it works: All of the couples who are married get on the dance floor and the DJ announces “if you’ve been married _____ years, leave the dance floor” and you eventually end up with the couple who’s been married the longest. Then the DJ usually asks if they have any advice or words of wisdom for the newlyweds. It’s pretty cute.

Dollar/Money Dance

Skip the “Honeymoon Fund” jar and do a money dance! Your best man and maid of honor come up to the dance floor with you. One is in charge of the bride’s line and one is in charge of the groom’s line. Guests come up and give money to them and get in line to dance with the bride or groom! Most of the time, couples will walk away with $500-$1,000 in cash. Just be sure to work out your hip flexors and stretch before because you’ll be two-stepping for a while.

Private Last Dance

While your guests are lining up for your grand exit take a moment to let the whole day sink in while you sway to one of your favorite songs! Again, it’s just you, me, and the band/DJ while everyone else is outside getting situated.
